Several decades of work on major urban projects are translated into a specific glance at how the city is nowadays recomposing and the various factors involved in the reinvented construction process: environment issues, land scarcity, search for more livable cities, advanced technologies…
Our project design approach is pragmatical. Our vision is quite straightforward: one site, one program, one budget, one schedule. Whereas architecture tends to define itself as a work of art, we keep preserving a balance between form and function, so the formal dimension shall transcend the project without remaining the sole component.
We identify our role as of help and advise: being in charge of a general management of all constraints, we make sure to run the project until its completion with regard to the initial intent.
The main issue at stake is perhaps avoiding the effects of trends. Any architectural project ought to embody a timeless image, but every new building aims at being ever more beautiful as the previous ones…True permanent structures are the ones designed from the purest layouts, being harmoniously set with their formal and climatic environment. That is why urban integration is much essential: inserting a project within space is alike inserting it within times.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: A PIONEER’S CRITICAL VISION
We always design our buildings to last… As soon as 1979, we fitted the Elf Tower with a thermal storage system and heat pumps. Thus the ensuing energy consumption is four times smaller than for equivalent towers.
PB6, CB16, and CBX are even more energy savers owed to some high technology devices set at design stage and developped at construction time: high performance glazing, summertime thermal storage, thermal wells…
Thanks to this long experience, our process is beforehand realistic and aims at efficiency: sustainable development implementation does not require expensive and spectacular devices. Final outputs are often better when agregating modest and numerous solutions, so that all existing potential is optimized.
While working on experimental projects such as the positive energy office building Energy + in Gennevilliers we enjoyed inpassionnating time as the environmental matters initiated changes: new professions, new needs, new constraints to deal with. However, it is useless to re invent already proven solutions or to yeld at fashion calls: technology evolves, not the fundamental patterns ruled by the laws of Physics and Thermics. Using the earlier in order to optimize the latter is real common sense, the one of progress.
