Lascaux 4 at Montignac, Dordogne

THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE INTERNATIONAL CENTER OF PARIETAL ART AT MONTIGNAC-LASCAUX

SRA supervises the works of the International Center of Parital Art: Lascaux 4 , designed by the Norwegian architectural firm Snøhetta in association with Duncan Lewis and Casson Mann for the scenography. For maximum integration in the site, the building is designed as an incision, which underlines the boundary between the Vezere valley and the hill, a landscape-building, of which only the glass front is visible. This new museum will offer visitors an introduction to cave painting thanks to a progression through the exhibition rooms, an orientation area, a belvedere roof and the almost complete reproduction of the cave of Lascaux. Semi-buried, the building, with a height of 8 m, extends for approximately 150 m and expands up to 70 m at its widest.

The replica of the cave (1200 m2) is a work apart; a metal frame will hold the projected mortar. It will then be carved to remind the walls of the original cave. Niches will be created and the reproductions will be embedded in them.

The construction of the project is currently underway with 80% of the structural work achieved. The concrete walls, the height of which varies from 8-15 m and angle of 2 ° to 9 °, are still visible and the walls and nailed Parisian who founded the hillside building. For concrete in the most natural appearance possible, everything is cast in place. The next step is the realization of the architectural fascia 170 m long. In concrete, it will cling to a metal structure placed on two poles 6 m high. The roof, the level, the right of the rear wall, equal to that of the natural terrain, will consist of a complex consisting of a metal frame made of beams about 1.20 m high and collaborating bins. The whole is covered with a complex vegetated which has undergone an ATEX.
